Movement should be fluid, whether taking your body from one position to another or shifting the world. BEACH DEFENDER, the second drop from adidas by Stella McCartney SS21, is a multipurpose collection of tactical performance wear designed for the land and water. Supporting the next generation in their pursuit of change, returning directors Monika Mogi in Tokyo and Netti Hurley in London share their visions of ‘water’ by capturing a hand-selected group of inspiring creators and activists.
We created this campaign to shine a spotlight on those connected to and helping to protect the world and its waters. I was so inspired by the idea of creating multipurpose pieces that are designed to be both kinder to the planet, but also perform in different environments and for different workouts.
The campaign and collection explore next-gen changemakers’ relationships with the world through movement, from wild swimming in rivers to cleaning our planet’s oceans. Taking inspiration from these natural bodies, a fresh palette of colour-blocked whites and storm blues flows across sustainable sportswear pieces innovated with the latest technology.
The collection uses PRIMEBLUE, a high-performance recycled material made in part with Parley Ocean Plastic, and PRIMEGREEN, a series of high-performance recycled materials. Pieces also incorporate adidas’ READY moisture management system – keeping athletes feeling dry and comfortable, no matter the conditions.
