Stella’s Sustainable Market: The Summer 2024 runway show

On a sunny morning in the streets of Paris, models walked the Marché Saxe-Breteuil, transformed into Stella’s Sustainable Market for our Summer 2024 runway show – a bold display of conscious luxury fashion and material innovation. A study in family, freedom and fluidity, the ageless collection is close to Stella’s heart, blurring the lines between genders and generations. Crafted from 95% responsible materials, it is our most sustainable edit to date.

Summer 2024 is rooted in what Stella knows and loves: music, her parents’ relationship and shared wardrobes, and the care for our fellow creatures and Mother Earth they instilled in her. This is expressed through the 21 stalls of Stella’s Sustainable Market, which included innovative materials featured in the show: NFW’s MIRUM®, Keel Labs’ Kelsun™️, Mabel Industries’ Uppeal™️, VEGEA®, NONA Source and Andrew Logan, whose recycled glass wearable art adorned selected looks.

The eclectic, ageless collection reinterprets pieces from Stella’s archive as well as those she borrowed from her parents, and her daughters now borrow from her. The edit leans into texture, proportion and decoration.

Black and stone pinstripe tailcoats are styled over ruffled shirts and diamond-encrusted bodysuits. Lead-free crystals adorn hot pants and cummerbunds over iconic Savile Row tailoring, while diamond fringe is dotted across organic cotton wide denim. A tuxedo story is told across cropped and corseted tailcoats.

Stage looks are reinterpreted as metallic brocade tailoring, alongside black and crystal-encrusted waistcoats styled over ruffled shirting. Mirrored polka dots are hand-crocheted into ecru knit dresses using Kelsun™️ – a seaweed-based yarn, a world-first for the luxury industry.

Inspired by Paul and Linda McCartney’s life on tour, vintage Wings merch graphics are revisited on organic cotton t-shirts. They sit under a varsity jacket featuring the work of artist Hajime Sorayama, with a limited-edition capsule launching in December 2023. Silhouette is focal, with balloon shapes on gowns, mini-dresses and bomber jackets in NONA Source repurposed silk taffetas and forest-friendly viscose satins. Whimsical polka dots and bugle bead embroideries appear throughout, featured on floor-length wrap dresses, asymmetric mini dresses and ruffle-skirted dresses in chiffon.

Proportions shift with cropped and maxi biker jackets in a vegan alternative to animal leather, alongside voluminous and fitted cotton canvas olive trench coats. Archival Stella corsets inform lacing across separates.

Strapless gowns cut from a body-revealing tulle with appliqué florals are made from deadstock fabrics. The collection finishes with ballooning ruffles on floor-length maxi dresses playing with polka dot transparency and opacity. Evening editions are cut from black forest-friendly viscose satin, bursting with bubble volumes at the sleeves.

The runway show includes a Frayme bag crafted from a vegan alternative to animal leather using grape byproduct from Veuve Clicquot’s harvest, fully traceable and grown using regenerative agriculture practices. Frayme bag advance lacing and knotting details. Iconic Falabella bags are revisited in new twisted silhouettes and lead-free crystal triangles, alongside MIRUM® styles in light grey.

A Y2K moment comes from new Terra pumps, featuring sculptural heels in grape-based VEGEA straps as well as twisted turban uppers and knotted biobased mesh. The S-Wave Sport trainer is constructed with entirely conscious materials. Corset-laced pointed ballet flats and twisted Falabella loafers are aligned with ready-to-wear.
