Photographer Daisy Walker on nudes and nature
London-based photographer, director and founder of Women in Fashion (WIF) Daisy Walker brings the female gaze into focus – reclaiming and creating space in our culture long dominated by male perspectives. She captured a series of self-portraits during lockdown, nude save for a select edit of Stella McCartney vegan leather bags and shoes. Her work frames bodies and objects through an intimate lens, often broaching discussions around feminism and the environment; art meets activism.
At home with Malgosia Bela and Pawel Pawlikowski
A model turned muse. Supermodel and friend Malgosia Bela’s form inspired artists globally in our Saatchi Gallery x Stella Life Drawing experience, wearing eyewear and sustainable ready-to-wear pieces from our Summer 2020 collection. She was also shot and directed at home that day by her Oscar-winning husband, Pawel Pawlikowski.
Stella x Saatchi Gallery Life Drawing
We collaborated with Saatchi Gallery to host an at-home ‘life drawing’ of supermodel and friend Malgosia Bela, wearing our Summer 2020 collection, on IGTV. A group of global artists participated and produced work in their chosen mediums including Miriam Escofet, Massimiliano Pironti, Florence Hutchings, Denis Sarazhin, George Dawnay, Nancy Cadogan, Yifat Bezalel, Mona Osman, Alida Cervantes and Michael Cline. Join in too by sharing your art with #StellaCommUnity and we will curate our favourite pieces on our social media pages. This collaboration is in support of the Saatchi Gallery and its educational programming during this difficult time; please donate here.
Yuan Yuan Tan puts Mother Earth in motion
As the world looks to restart, San Francisco Ballet Prima Ballerina and Principal Yuan Yuan Tan hopes that this situation helps us to appreciate more and be aware of our impact on Mother Earth. Inspired by nature and our Summer 2020 collection, our most sustainable ever, she improvised and shot this dance at home in San Francisco during lockdown.
Blanca Li interprets isolation through dance
Renowned dancer Blanca Li choreographed and shot a series of videos for Stellavision whilst at home in Paris during lockdown, inspired by and wearing our iconic vegan Elyse sneakers and pieces from our Summer 2020 collection. Missing her dancers in isolation, she digitally multiplied herself – making real a hope for the future when they will move together again.
Gary Hume London studio tour
Legendary Young British Artist (YBA) Gary Hume has been a friend of Stella’s forever, having collaborated on pieces in her collections, offices and store windows, he gave us a rare insight into his personal space during lockdown. Though he himself is camera shy, he offered a courageous look at his body of work.
Stella x William Eggleston chat
Lockdown has been a time to reflect and reconnect with friends. For Stella, that has meant catching up with her dear friend and creative muse William Eggleston – a living legend who revolutionised the traditional photography world with his use of colour-full shots of the American South in the 20th Century. Whilst wearing Stella McCartney menswear pieces, he spoke with her about his favourite pictures, their mutual friendship with David Lynch and who his top fashion designer is.
Olafur Eliasson Berlin studio tour
Celebrated Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson took us on a rare virtual visit of his Berlin studio. A personal friend and favourite of Stella’s, he generously shared his mind and inspirations as well as what he has been creating while in lockdown. Discover how colour, light, sustainable materials, nature and science come together in his brilliant, beautiful vision.
Mary McCartney
Stella’s sister, lifelong vegetarian and photographer Mary McCartney gives us an intimate look into her lockdown experience. Wearing pieces from the Stella McCartney Spring and Summer 2020 collections, she captures self-portraits celebrating creativity as an escape and, in doing so, inspires herself and us to view home and nature from a new perspective.
Marilyn Minters NYC studio tour
Having previously photographed and painted Stella, American animal rights activist and artist Marilyn Minter invited us on a rare video tour of her New York City studio during lockdown. She then brought us to her workspace upstate, where she offered wisdom on how to stay inspired as well as an exclusive preview of her current projects.
Ralph Gibson: Stella in Nature
For over 50 years, legendary American photographer Ralph Gibson has been celebrated globally for his work. Stella asked him to inspire and be inspired for Stellavision. As part of his new Objects-Nature series, he produced two Stella in Nature pieces – capturing our vegan Eclypse sneaker and iconic Falabella bag; human design juxtaposed masterfully against natural beauty.
adidas #HomeTeam: Stella x Paul Pogba
Inspiring new connections, even in isolation. Stella was invited to be a part of adidas’ #HomeTeam lockdown series alongside Manchester United’s Paul Pogba. Mutual fans of each other’s work, they chatted about style, sustainability and staying fit while we all #StayHome.
Helena Christensen finds inspiration in isolation
Supermodel Helena Christensen is isolating at home in the American countryside with her self-described “quarantine gang”, including her son Lucien Reedus, her creative partner Camilla Staerk and friend Elizabeth Acevedo. A mixture of biological and chosen family, they turned our collective moment of pause into a creative project for Stellavision – styling and photographing each other in Stella McCartney Summer 2020 ready-to-wear and menswear pieces, inspiring their time in lockdown and in nature.
Anna Pollack explores chosen family
Brooklyn-based director Anna Pollack explores the notion of chosen family for Stellavision, capturing friends as they find inspiration in isolation by pursuing their individual passions and relationships with nature – all while comfortably and confidently wearing Stella McCartney Spring Summer 2020 lingerie in their new everyday realities. She directed and shot the series entirely during lockdown, reflecting the novel ways we are currently adapting to create content.
Earth Day 2020
We celebrated Earth Day’s 50th anniversary at a time when our planet faces an unprecedented challenge. While the current situation is heartbreaking, there is also hope – silver linings like more community spirit and compassion to not only fight the pandemic, but to save Mother Earth. This involves a commitment today to protect a better tomorrow, a vision magnified through our Piccadilly Circus screen takeover and messaging: “For us, every day is Earth Day.”
Vogue Global Conversations
Stella was interviewed by Vogue España’s Eugenia de la Torriente as part of the Vogue Global Conversations series. She shared about not only the future of creativity and sustainability, but our path as a species – discussing how the situation our world is facing has connected us all, giving us a much-needed moment to reflect and be hopeful. She reflects how we have collectively been given a second chance to heal Mother Earth and be kinder to the creatures we share her with – though it might be our last.
David Lynch on transcendental meditation
David Lynch shared about his decades-long transcendental meditation practice, his key to unlocking true inner happiness. Mental and emotional peace is an invaluable resource now more than ever. His David Lynch Foundation supports at-risk populations from urban schools to prisons to medical providers currently on the front lines via Heal the Healers Now, helping them to lower their stress, anxiety and chances of burnout.
#StellaStaircase
Though we are physically apart, we can be digitally together. We invited our #StellaCommUnity to join in the fun and put your positivity in motion by (safely) showing us how you are using your steps with our #StellaStaircase challenge. Stella herself, alongside friends of the brand Drew Barrymore, Poppy Delevingne, Patti Smith and more, stepped up but ultimately @kira_gruzdenko took the prize.
