Le Bambole Stella McCartney × B&B Italia launches at Art Basel Miami
Our Le Bambole Stella McCartney × B&B Italia capsule collection launches at Art Basel Miami today with an immersive window display and three-piece edit, marking our first-ever interiors collaboration.
Stella McCartney × B&B Italia brings to life Stella’s long-time personal passion for legendary designer and architect Mario Bellini’s works, with his vintage furniture pieces on display in our 23 Old Bond Street flagship in London. He designed Le Bambole armchair half a century ago and it has gone on to become one of the interiors world’s most iconic items.
In celebration of its 50th anniversary, we first showcased the collaboration at our ‘Future of Fashion’ travelling exhibition during Milan Design Week in June – spotlighting a reimagination of Bellini’s iconic Le Bambole chair as part of our material innovation installation.
The Stella McCartney x B&B Italia three-piece collection includes the exclusive Le Bambole armchair, a Bibambola double-seater sofa and Granbambola 3-seater sofa – all featuring a hand-drawn ‘Fungi Forest’ toile de Jouy print upholstery taken from our Summer 2022 runway collection, with a responsible construction inspired by shared sustainability values.
Made with circularity in mind, the new Le Bambole is designed to be fully disassembled – allowing for easier repairs and the most responsible use of materials at the end of life.
Where the original Le Bambole construction features a metal structure wrapped in polyurethane, our editions use next-generation conscious materials. A recycled polyethylene frame, elements in polyurethane foam and thermoplastic elastomers – encased in a recycled polyester fabric beneath the upholstery – give its iconic shape, comfort and breathability without compromising on the quality and durability that B&B Italia is renowned for.
Furthering our mission to support circularity and reduce our environmental impact, Le Bambole’s upholstery is a 100% biodegradable* and toxic-free polyester, leaving no harmful microplastics in the environment, produced with 25% biobased, 75% petroleum-based feedstock. The fabric is made in audited mills which follow the strict OceanSafe Compliant standards, and the ink used for the print is Oeko-Tex® certified.
Continuing the collaboration's spirit of conscious innovation is a special edition of our Logo tote, embroidered in the same ‘Fungi Forest’ print as the capsule pieces. Made from a combination of recycled, recyclable and biobased materials, it is crafted using Bananatex® – a pioneering, plastic-free fabric made purely from naturally grown banana plants in the Philippines, requiring no chemical treatments, supporting reforestation and enhancing the prosperity of local farmers. The Logo mushroom bag will be on display alongside the B&B Italia capsule at Art Basel Miami Beach as well as at Stella McCartney's Bal Harbour boutique, available to shop as part of the Autumn 2023 collection next year.
