The Winter 2020 collection made an irreverent demonstration for change today at Opera Garnier in Paris. The season was inspired by strong-willed women grounded in reality with a free spirit – ready to express themselves and make a statement, fashion or otherwise.
Actors dressed in furry fancy dress made a bold stand for animal-free luxury fashion, stampeding the show. Friends and guests present included Shailene Woodley, Janelle Monae, Naomie Ackie, Isabelle Huppert, Catriona Balfe, Tina Kunakey, Sheila Hicks and Marie-Agnès Gillot.
The Winter 2020 collection is a modernist take on an opulent fantasy, drawing inspiration from Russian-born French artist Erté and a rebellious energy. The show unfolded with sculptural silhouettes, minimal embellishments, natural textures and colours, and vegan leather and animal-free shearling.
Voluminous outerwear and tailoring in neutral tones gave way to utilitarian punches of lumberjack check and unstructured, metallic bead-embellished dresses.
While there were animals on our catwalk, there wasn’t any fur or skins in our collection. We are proudly the only luxury fashion house in the world that did not put real leather on our runway and welcome our friends in the industry to join us.
Focal bags included a mid-century-inspired shoulder bag, a geometric micro-bag featuring a chunky take on our iconic Falabella chain and a dramatically oversized, slouchy Hobo bag.
Sharply pointed flat goth boots and pumps marched into the season. The Emilie chelsea boot also made its show debut. Gold and silver animal jewellery were an eccentric addition, inspired by ancient hieroglyphs and mid-century art.
We did our best to reduce our environmental impact for the Winter 2020 show and will plant trees representing all of our invited guests to ensure they are part of the solution.
